Burkina: 168 Burkinabè stranded in Tunisia arrived in Ouagadougou


168 Burkinabè nationals who had been stranded in Tunisia arrived in Ouagadougou by a special humanitarian flight, according to a press release from the International Organization for Migration (IOM), received Wednesday by AIB.

According to the press release, the 168 migrants were welcomed at Ouagadougou airport on Thursday January 4, 2024 by the authorities of the Ministry in charge of Foreign Affairs and those of the Ministry in charge of Humanitarian Action.

The same source explains that the IOM provided assistance to migrants with the support of its partners which are the Burkinabè Red Cross, ARSIM World and Alert Migration.

‘IOM hopes to continue this close collaboration with the authorities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabè abroad in order to facilitate assistance for the voluntary return and successful reintegration of Burkinabè migrants,’ said the representative of the IOM head of mission in Burkina Faso Ousmane Niang.

In December 2023, 410 Burkinabè migrants f
rom the Maghreb countries, Chad and Niger were able to return home.

Some of them attended information and orientation sessions on business and integration opportunities in Burkina Faso.
