100 experts recruited by the Ministry of Health will benefit from October 14 to 23, 2024 in Bobo-Dioulasso, from a strengthening of their expertise in the management of public health emergencies.

With a view to strengthening Burkina Faso’s operational capacities to respond to health emergencies, the Ministry of Health is training the latest team of 100 “SURGE” experts for 10 days in the town of Sya.

This meeting, led by the Center for Health Emergency Response Operations (CORUS), aims, according to technical director, Dr Watton Rodrigue Diao, to provide the department in charge of health with experts capable of responding to the needs of the population in terms of health emergency management.

According to the WHO Burkina Faso office’s health emergencies officer, Dr Sonia Ouédraogo, this session will provide the Ministry of Health with “SURGE” experts who will be ready to respond to an emergency situation within 24 to 48 hours.

Participants will gain a deeper understanding of rapid response teams, their r
oles and composition, pre-deployment preparation, health security, surveillance during emergencies, case finding, data management and psychological first aid.

Topics such as risk communication and community engagement, laboratory, infection prevention and control as well as simulation exercises will also be developed.

This training is devoted exclusively to module 3 of rapid intervention teams (RIAT) and mobilized national and international experts identified by WHO to facilitate the module.

As a reminder, as part of the management of public health emergencies, the Ministry of Health has recruited 100 SURGE experts, a multidisciplinary and multisectoral team within the framework of the “One Health” approach to respond effectively to any possible public health emergency. This session benefits from the technical and financial support of WHO.
