Bobo-Dioulasso: incineration of 100 million FCFA of prohibited products

The Hauts-Bassins regional judicial police service incinerated several tons of drugs, cigarettes and other prohibited products on Friday June 14, 2024 in Bobo-Dioulasso. The value of the products is estimated at more than 100 million FCFA.

Hard blow for fraudsters in Bobo-Dioulasso. Indeed, several tonnes of prohibited products previously seized during several investigations were incinerated on the morning of Friday June 14, 2024.

These include 439 cartons of cigarettes, 1,132 tonnes of drugs and 20,345 tonnes of prohibited products. Estimated at more than 100 million CFA Francs, these products were seized by the Regional Directorate of the National Police of Hauts-Bassins through its Regional Judicial Police Service (SRPJ).

For the case of cigarettes, this concerns 21,950 cartridges or 219,500 packets of cigarettes with downgraded labeling worth nearly 44 million FCFA. Indeed, according to the decree on the packaging and labeling of tobacco products in Burkina Faso, the competent authorities change the l
abeling of cigarettes sold in Burkina Faso every 24 months, i.e. the health warnings. and other descriptive messages. Thus for the police commissioner, head of the Hauts-Bassins Judicial Police, Yacouba Farta, after several changes made, the cigarette seized found itself in non-compliance.

According to him, the second batch of products is composed of narcotics, notably cannabis and tramadol. ‘These high-risk drugs, amounting to approximately 1,132 tonnes, whose toxic and psychotropic effects are no longer in doubt, were seized from the hands of traffickers, some of whom were apprehended and brought before the judicial authorities,’ he said. he indicates.

The third batch is composed of prohibited products in a quantity of 20,345 tonnes. According to the police commissioner, these products, the manufacture and storage of which did not respect any standards in terms of human health and public hygiene, were manufactured and made available to resellers by an individual who fled during his arrest. ‘Essentially co
mposed of beauty products, prohibited medications against hemorrhoids, blood pressure and many others, these products according to the expertise of qualified people are harmful to the health of the population,’ added the head of the Judicial Police. . He also invited the population to be vigilant and to report any suspicious cases to the toll-free numbers 17, 16 and 1010.
