The potential threats posed by artificial intelligence (AI) put the technology on a par with nuclear and biological weapons, billionaire Bill Gates believes.
‘We’ve made great progress. [But] there are […] climate change, nuclear weapons, bioterrorism and AI,’ the British newspaper Daily Mirror quotes Gates as saying, noting that he equates these threats. ‘I find the pace of AI surprising and a little scary,’ he added. At the same time, Gates acknowledged that AI could also be used for useful purposes, including facilitating access to education and health services.
In an interview with The Independent, Bill Gates said that AI will change society more than any other technological and scientific achievement of humanity, and that the authorities of different countries will have to intervene in this process. According to him, AI technology ‘has no ceiling’ and the next AI revolution ‘will reshape society to a greater extent’ than previous leaps in human development throughout its history.
