The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) announced in a press release sent to the AIB that ‘the chartered flight transporting the Scorpions to the Africa Cup of Nations returned to Banjul due to technical problems.

‘The flight was nine minutes into the air when the crew realized and immediately requested to return to Banjul,’ the GFF explained, adding that ‘upon landing, preliminary investigations revealed a loss of pressure and oxygen in the cabin.

‘However, the technical team of the flight operating company, Air Côte d’Ivoire, is further assessing the situation to establish the cause of the lack of oxygen and pressure in the cabin,’ said the Gambian football umbrella.

The federation informs that ‘the team, including players and staff, are now en route to the Ocean Bay Hotel awaiting further instructions’.

The governing body of Gambian football reassures that ‘each member of the delegation is safe and sound’ and that ‘the public will be kept informed of any developments in the matter’.
