Agropastoral offensive 2023-2025: 280 ha of lowlands to be developed at the foot of the Sindou peaks


Ouagadougou: The Minister of Agriculture, animal and fishery resources, Ismaël Sombié, launched on Monday January 15, 2024, in the province of Léraba, Cascades region, the development work of 280 hectares on the site of the Sindou peaks valley . Funded by the Agricultural Resilience and Competitiveness Project (PReCA), the development of this site is part of the implementation of the 2023-2025 agropastoral offensive.

The development of 280 hectares (ha) of the Sindou peaks bottomland in the Léraba province is part of the implementation of the action plan for the agropastoral and fishing offensive.

The start of the work took place on the morning of Monday January 15, 2024, in the Léraba province, Cascades region. The development of the site is financed by the Agricultural Resilience and Competitiveness Project (PReCA) at approximately 1.4 billion CFA francs, for a period of five months.

The development work on the Pics de Sindou valley concerns three blocks with areas of 54.63 ha, 166.64 ha and 27.13 ha.

he development will allow an increase in irrigated areas with an extension of 53 ha. This work will take into account water control, protection of water sources and the plain by hedges.

In addition, this development will facilitate the transport and storage of production through the construction of crossing structures, the rehabilitation of the track and the construction of storage stores.

Added to these are the construction of latrines and three drinking water supply systems (AEPS).

According to the project coordinator, Adama Siri, the development of the 280 ha of the Sindou peaks valley will directly impact four riverside villages, namely: Niofila, Golona, Halana and Sindou.

Ultimately, Adama Siri maintained that this arranged space will improve productivity. ‘We plan to double production on this area from 3 to 6 tonnes/ha,’ he said.

The governor of the Cascades region, Badabouè Florent Bazié, said that the populations of the region, particularly those of the beneficiary villages, are impatiently awaiting the effective development of this lowland.

To enable the company in charge of the work to carry out the work on time, the governor urged the operators who still have their plantations and equipment on the site to take the necessary measures to avoid blockages in the ‘work execution.

In the same vein, the Minister of Agriculture, Animal and Fisheries Resources, Ismaël Sombié, wanted to be as clear as possible. ‘Not one more day for the contractor responsible for executing the contract.’

For this, the few occupants of the site have a deadline of Wednesday (editor’s note: January 17, 2024) to vacate the premises,’ he insisted.

of development work on the Dourou and Sindou sites demonstrates the department’s desire to provide the maximum possible resources to producers so that the objectives are met. achieved for the implementation of the 2023-2025 agropastoral and fisheries offensive.
