Advocacy meeting to fight against human rabies in Koulpelogo

The Ouargaye health district met with opinion leaders in the said locality on Monday to plead in order to effectively combat human rabies in the Koulpélogo province, AIB noted on site.

This advocacy meeting between the Ouargaye health district and opinion leaders took place at the Ouargaye Medical Center with Surgical Unit (CMA) and was chaired by the 2nd Vice -President of the Ouargaye special delegation, Ms. Fatimata Soulé/Daboné, representing the President of the Ouargaye special delegationFor Dr. Morou Nikiema, the district’s chief medical officer, “human rabies is defined as a viral zoonosis accidentally transmitted to humans through contact with the saliva of an infected animal during a bite, scratch or lick.

He indicated that dogs are responsible for most of the fatal cases of human rabies. It is also a case, once declared, is always fatal. Hence the plea to opinion leaders for the prevention of this phenomenon which consists of the vaccination of pets especially dogs against rabies.
