5th Edition of the International Festival ‘Rhythms and traditions’: The diversity of traditional music celebrated in Zorgho


Ouagadougou: The High Commissioner of the province of Ganzourgou, Mrs. Aminata Sorgho/Gouba delivered the closing speech of the 5th edition of the ‘rhythms and traditions’ festival in Zorgho on December 30, 2023.

From December 28 to 30, 2023, the poultry market space in Zorgho vibrated to the rhythm of the 5th edition of the International Festival of Rhythms and Traditions, called ‘Pengd Wendé’. The closing ceremony, chaired by the High Commissioner of the Ganzourgou province, Aminata Sorgho/Gouba, representing the Governor of the Central Plateau region, was a true celebration of Burkinabè cultural diversity.

The event was honored by the emblematic presence of Zougnazagamda, legendary figure of traditional Burkinabè music, who expressed his gratitude to the cultural actors supporting his initiative. He stressed the importance of preserving the rich musical heritage, calling on the inhabitants of Ganzourgou to work together for this noble cause.

re than forty years of musical career, stands out as an original and ambitious project. It aims to bring together the various traditional musical expressions of Burkina Faso on the same stage, while offering new perspectives of development for the artists.

The closing ceremony was marked by the intervention of High Commissioner Aminata Sorgho/Gouba, who underlined the importance of the performing arts in social cohesion. She praised the success of this edition which highlighted the diversity of activities offered, from traditional music to tales intended for young people.

The ‘Rhythmes du Village’ Festival was also an opportunity to present cultural projects such as ‘Storytelling Time’ dedicated to children and an exhibition highlighting local products and musical instruments representative of the different regions of Burkina.

In conclusion, Madam High Commissioner expressed her gratitude to the promoter Zougnazagamda. She called for making this festival an international reference like other major cultural
events. She warmly thanked festival-goers, partners, and media for their contribution to the success of this edition, emphasizing the importance of consolidating the ties that unite the population through Burkinabe culture.
